Employee engagement is a very popular topic of the last several years. Tons of research has been done on how employee engagement correlates to performance.
I want to take a look at employee engagement and how that fits with some basic human psychology. To do this I’ll be using Gallup’s 12 questions for gauging employee engagement and Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.
This is Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. The basic concept of this pyramid is that these are our needs as humans. We fulfill these needs from the bottom to the top. They are not static, meaning that we may move up and down on this pyramid due to different circumstances in our lives.
