Last month I talked about different email marketing software. Now it is time to talk about how to make the best of it.
Making sure your list is current can save you a lot of headaches now and in the future. One thing many people don’t realize is fake email addresses or any email addresses that will bounce, damages your list. Anyone that you don’t want on your list anymore should be marked or deleted so emails stop going to them.
Emailing people who are not interested in your product or service is a waste of time. They are not interested and are more likely to mark you as spam. Keep growing your list but make sure it is full of people you target so your not wasting your time.
47% of people open an email solely based on the subject line. If that isn’t stressful enough, 70% mark it as spam after reading a subject line. Your emails subject line is like it’s pickup-line. If it’s bad, they just walk away. Try keeping them 50 characters or less. You don’t want your subject to fall under the TL;DR category.
Try giving them the fear of missing out by using phrases like “limited-time only” or order within the next 24 hours for XX% off. It is even better if you can personalize it. Use their name or the product they purchased last from you. You want it to feel like you wrote all those emails one by one even though everyone knows they are automated. To add another personal touch, send them a birthday email or something that says you are paying attention.
We have all heard of blacklist but whitelists exist too. Once every year you can send out an email to your new clients (or include this in a welcome email) that has steps to add you to their whitelist so they will always receive your emails. It is simple and very effective.
