A recent TechCrunch article reported the findings of a ShareThis study that revealed Facebook as a dominating source of ShareThis-driven referral traffic. The study was conducted in association with Starcom MediaVest Group and Rubinson Partners with the purpose of dissecting the sharing and clicking patterns of people who use the ShareThis button found on over a million websites. Numbering over 300-million-strong each month, ShareThis-button-clickers apparently produce 7 billion pageviews a month with their link-sharing.
Combined, “sharing” in general accounts for an estimated 10 percent of all Internet traffic, with Facebook dominating 38 percent of that. That’s more than Email and Twitter combined. And this is only the percentage of shared links that were actually clicked post-sharing. The amount of un-clicked shared links are higher, with Facebook claiming 56 percent of all shared content.
Wow, Facebook. Now if you could only make dinner. Oh, wait, I guess there’s a link to someone who does.
