In a stand against the Stop Online Piracy Act and PROTECT IP Act, NetHosting encourages site owners to switch hosting plans to confirmed Anti-SOPA/PIPA hosting providers.

Orem, UT NetHosting, a rising leader in Cloud Hosting, Virtual Hosting, and Dedicated Hosting solutions, has recently confirmed its opposition to the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), which was introduced to the House of Representatives in October 2011, as well as the current bill in review by the Senate, called the PROTECT IP Act. In opposition to both bills, NetHosting has also extended a special offer for Free Website Transfer as an incentive for site owners to support anti-SOPA/PIPA hosting providers.

Both bills grant the federal government the power to shut down and blacklist any website caught in the act of copyright infringement, but certain language potentially subjects social websites, such as YouTube, Wikipedia, Twitter, and more, the same measure of punishment if the actions of their users constitute the same type of infringement. Consequently, opponents of the bills, including NetHosting, are concerned about the lack of due process, as well as fair and clear language, contained in both bills. Some, like Wikipedia, have participated in website blackouts in protest.

“Such heavy-handed legislation will do less to accomplish the goal of ending online piracy than it would to shackle an industry that is essential to the success of modern business,” stated NetHosting CEO, Lane Livingston. “Our Acceptable Use Policy weeds out the exact type of sites targeted in the SOPA and PIPA bills, and our customers know that we enforce it. Obviously, we’re not proponents of online piracy, but we are strongly against Internet censorship.”

Mr. Livingston explained that his company’s special offer for Free Website Transfer is intended both to raise awareness about the dual bills before it is brought to a vote and to encourage website owners to transfer their hosting to a provider that is anti-SOPA and anti-PIPA. The offer includes full transfer of website data and new hosting setup, free of cost.

“Every site owner should know that his or her provider stands against legislation that could harm their business,” finished Mr. Livingston. “We’re that provider.”

NetHosting officially launched the special offer on January 18th, and has not defined an end date.
